Answers for frequently asked questions
Who can play for the Saints?
The Washtenaw Saints are a homeschool football team open to players aged 14-18. You don’t have to be exclusively homeschooled—students in hybrid programs, online schools, or smaller schools that might not have a team are also welcome to play!
Do I need football experience to join?
No experience? No problem! We welcome athletes of all skill levels. Our coaches focus on developing fundamental skills, so whether you’re new to the sport or a seasoned player, there’s a place for you on our team.
When and where are practices held?
Our official practices start in late July and run through October for most seasons. We practice 4-5 days a week in the field behind Christ the King Catholic Church in Ann Arbor. Before the season, we also offer optional workouts and training camps—follow our social media for updates!
How much does it cost to play?
Our player fees cover equipment, field rentals, referees, and more. The exact cost varies per season, but we work hard to keep football accessible. Most seasons the cost is around $400, plus a equipment deposit fee.
What equipment do players need?
Players must have their own cleats and mouthguard. We provide helmets, a guardian cap, shoulder pads, game uniforms, pants, and a girdle. Players may also choose to purchase their own gear, with approval of a coach.
How can I support the team?
We rely on volunteers, sponsors, and community support! You can help by:
- Volunteering (game-day help, fundraising, coaching assistance)
- Sponsoring the team (business sponsorships available!)
- Attending games and cheering on the Saints!
